Terms of Service

1. Introduction

Welcome to What's Up Trivia ("the Platform", "the Service"), a skill-based knowledge competition platform operated by SummerIsland Systems ("we", "us", "our"). What's Up Trivia is a competitive quiz platform — not a gambling, betting, or wagering service. Outcomes are determined entirely by player knowledge and skill, not chance. By accessing or using our Service through the web at play.whatsuptrivia.com.ng, WhatsApp or Telegram, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and by our Official Play Rules, which form part of them.

2. Nature of the Service

What's Up Trivia provides:

A skill-based knowledge competition delivered on the web and through messaging platforms
Sponsored leaderboard rewards funded by the platform and its sponsors
Access credits that grant participation in competition rounds
Challenge-A-Friend(s): player-created matches, which may carry a prize sponsored by the player who creates them

The Service is not a gambling, betting, wagering, lottery, or chance-based product. Access credits have no monetary value outside platform participation, are not stored value, and cannot be redeemed for cash or transferred between users.

3. Eligibility

All modes: Available to users aged 13 and above
Sponsoring a challenge prize: Restricted to users aged 18 and above
Geographic restriction: Available globally, but a valid Nigerian bank account is required to receive prizes (for now)
Account limits: One account per person (strictly enforced)

4. Account Registration

To use our Service you must provide accurate registration information and keep your account secure. On WhatsApp and Telegram you register through the bot; on the web you register with an email address or Google sign-in. Accounts are separate on each platform: credits, rewards and history stay with the account they were earned on. You must use your real name, because rewards are paid only to a bank account in the registered name.

5. Competition Modes

5.1 Practice Mode

Free participation with unlimited rounds and no sponsored rewards. Designed for skill development.

5.2 Classic Mode

Requires access credits (1 access credit = 1 round). Earn sponsored leaderboard rewards up to ₦50,000. 15 questions per round, with a default timer of 12 seconds per question. Timers are progressive and can change from question to question and round to round.

5.3 Tournaments

Sponsored events with a prize pool paid by final rank. Entry may require a tournament token or access credits, as stated for each tournament.

5.4 Challenge-A-Friend(s)

Player-created matches of 15 questions at 10 seconds each, played anytime or live, one-on-one or in groups of up to 20. The full rules are in section 7 of the Official Play Rules.

6. Access Credits & Payments

Access credits are bought in packages; current packages and prices are shown in the app at the time of purchase. Access credits are non-refundable, do not expire, and cannot be transferred between accounts. They grant participation only — they are not stored value, convertible currency, or transferable rights. Payments are processed securely by our payment partners.

7. Challenge Payments and Refunds

These terms apply to anyone who creates a challenge.

What you may pay. Depending on how the platform is configured when you create a challenge, you may pay a setup charge based on the number of players. You may also sponsor a prize of ₦1,000 to ₦100,000, which carries a platform fee of 15% of the prize. Every amount is shown and itemised before you pay, and all of it is paid upfront in one payment.
Prices are fixed when you create. The charges that apply to a challenge are the ones shown when you created it. Later price changes do not affect it.
Where the prize goes. A sponsored prize is held and paid to the winner. The winner receives the prize amount only. If you win your own challenge, you receive the prize as any other winner would.
Refunds. If a sponsored challenge is cancelled, expires, or is called off without two players finishing, the prize is refunded to you in full. The setup charge and the platform fee are not refundable in any circumstances, because they pay for the service already provided.
Joining is free. Players who join a challenge are never charged and never use an access credit.
Review. We may hold a prize for review where a result shows signs of collusion, and withhold it where collusion is established (section 10).

8. Sponsored Reward Structure

The Classic Mode reward tier structure ranges from ₦200 (Q1) to ₦50,000 (Q15), with milestone tiers at Q5 (₦1,000) and Q10 (₦10,000). Rewards are funded by the platform and its sponsors and distributed as recognition for skill-based achievement.

8.1 How a Round Is Settled

A wrong answer or timeout pays the last milestone passed, or nothing before Q5
Quitting a round on the web forfeits everything from that round, including any milestone
Failing a security check (CAPTCHA, photo verification or any other) ends the round and pays nothing
If a question cannot be delivered because of a technical failure: at the first question the round is cancelled and your credit or token returned; from the second question the round ends and pays nothing, with no automatic refund. We will review any complaint and may refund at our discretion
In tournaments, the same outcomes pay nothing for the round, but the questions you reached still count towards your rank

8.2 Reward Limits

Daily maximum: ₦30,000 in Classic winnings per user per day
Top tier cooldown: 5 days after earning the ₦50,000 top tier, during which Classic Mode and tournaments are unavailable
Challenge games are not affected by these limits

9. Reward Redemption

Rewards, challenge prizes and challenge refunds must be claimed within 3 days (72 hours)
Type "CLAIM" in chat, or tap the claim button on the web
Provide valid Nigerian bank account details in your registered name
Rewards are processed within 12–24 business hours
Unclaimed amounts after 72 hours are forfeited
KYC verification may be required for redemptions over ₦10,000

10. Prohibited Conduct

The following are STRICTLY PROHIBITED and may result in a permanent ban:

Creating or using multiple accounts
Using bots, scripts, or automation tools
Using external assistance during timed rounds, or copying question text
Sharing accounts or having others play on your behalf
Colluding with other players, including arranging the result of a challenge, passing answers to another player, or entering a challenge with accounts you control
Exploiting bugs or system vulnerabilities
Using stolen payment methods or initiating chargebacks
Providing false information during registration or KYC
Reselling, transferring, or attempting to assign value to access credits

11. Integrity Detection & Enforcement

We employ integrity measures including CAPTCHA, in-game photo verification, Turbo Mode, device fingerprinting, behavioural analysis, response time monitoring, single-device play on the web, and KYC verification. Turbo Mode raises the tempo of a round and may shorten the time allowed per question; it keeps the game lively and fair for all.

Timing out at the first question three times in a row results in a temporary suspension from reward modes, followed by a probation period with shorter timers.

Consequences of Violations: Immediate permanent ban, forfeiture of ALL pending rewards and prizes, no refund of access credits or challenge charges, and a ban across all platforms. Our decision on integrity cases is final.

12. Notifications

If you allow notifications in the web app, we will send you a notification when the lobby opens for a live challenge you have joined. We do not use notifications for marketing. You can turn them off at any time in your device or browser settings.

13. Limitation of Liability

We are not liable for internet connectivity issues, device malfunctions, losses due to user negligence or violations, third-party payment processing issues, or force majeure events.

14. Dispute Resolution

Round sessions are logged and retained for 7 days. Web players can review their own recent games for 72 hours. Players may dispute question accuracy or a round's outcome within 7 days. All decisions by our support team are final.

15. Modifications

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use after modifications constitutes acceptance.
