Everything you need to know about What's Up Trivia
Getting Started
What's Up Trivia is a skill-based knowledge competition platform where you earn sponsored leaderboard rewards by answering questions correctly. Play on the web at play.whatsuptrivia.com.ng, on WhatsApp or on Telegram — answer 15 questions and earn rewards up to ₦50,000, or challenge your friends. It's a competitive quiz platform — not betting or gambling.
Open web play at play.whatsuptrivia.com.ng, or use the WhatsApp or Telegram buttons on our website to open our bot. Complete quick registration and you're ready. Practice Mode is free; Classic Mode uses access credits; and joining a friend's challenge is always free.
Practice Mode is completely free with unlimited rounds, and accepting a friend's challenge never costs anything. Classic Mode uses access credits, and creating a challenge may carry a setup charge depending on how the platform is currently configured. Current prices are always shown in the app before you pay.
What's Up Trivia is open to users aged 13 and older in every mode. To sponsor a prize on a challenge you must be 18 or older.
Playing
You're presented with 15 multiple-choice questions, each with 4 options (A, B, C, D). The default time is 12 seconds per question. Answer correctly to climb the reward tier structure. Get one wrong and the round ends, but you keep any milestone tier you passed.
The default is 12 seconds per question. Timers are progressive — the time shortens as questions get harder — and can change from question to question and round to round, so don't rely on a fixed clock. The time for each question is always shown with it. Challenges use 10 seconds per question.
- Practice Mode: free, no rewards — perfect for skill development
- Classic Mode: uses 1 access credit per round, earn sponsored rewards up to ₦50,000
- Tournaments: sponsored events with a prize pool paid by final rank
- Challenge-A-Friend(s): set up a match against people you invite, anytime or live
You get 2 lifelines per round in Classic Mode and tournaments:
- 50:50: removes 2 wrong answers (tap it on the web, or type "50" in chat)
- Skip: replaces the current question with a different one (tap it on the web, or type "SKIP" in chat)
Each can be used once per round. Using 50:50 also adds 5 seconds to that question. In challenges only 50:50 is available.
Milestone tiers are at Q5 (₦1,000) and Q10 (₦10,000). If you pass one and later answer incorrectly or run out of time, you still walk away with that milestone amount.
It's treated as a wrong answer and the round ends, paying any milestone you passed. Make sure you have a stable internet connection.
Quitting a round on the web forfeits everything from that round, including any milestone you had already passed. If you're unsure, it's better to play the question out.
During a round we may ask you to take a quick photo to confirm that you're the person playing. It keeps the game fair for everyone. Failing this, or any other security check, ends the round and pays nothing.
Turbo Mode kicks in automatically to raise the tempo of a round. The time allowed per question may be shortened for part of the round, and you may be asked to type "GO" to continue. It's there to test players and make the game more fun, while keeping it fair for everyone.
If a question can't be delivered because of a technical failure at the first question, the round is cancelled and your credit or token is returned. From the second question onwards the round ends and pays nothing, and nothing is refunded automatically — contact us and we'll review it.
Challenge-A-Friend(s)
It's a match you set up against people you choose. Pick your categories, invite one friend or a group of up to 20, and everyone answers the same 15 questions at 10 seconds each. The highest score wins; if scores are level, the fastest total time wins. Every player gets a result card with the final standings.
Choose "Challenge a Friend" from the main menu (option 6 on WhatsApp and Telegram), or type CHALLENGE. On the web, tap Challenge a friend in the lobby. Pick your categories and how you want to play, then share the invite link.
- Anytime: each player plays their round whenever suits them. Available on web, WhatsApp and Telegram
- Live: everyone plays at the same moment, question by question, at a start time you choose. Live challenges are played in the browser; if you're on WhatsApp or Telegram you'll get a link to join
Invitations stay open for 48 hours. In an anytime challenge, each player has 24 hours from accepting to play their round. For a live challenge, the lobby opens 5 minutes before the start time.
Joining a challenge is always free and never uses an access credit. Depending on how the platform is configured, the creator may pay a setup charge based on the number of players. The creator can also add a sponsored prize of ₦1,000 to ₦100,000 for the winner, which carries a 15% platform fee. Every amount is shown before you pay.
The winner receives the prize amount. The setup charge and platform fee are kept by the platform. If you create a challenge and win it, you receive your prize like any other winner.
A challenge only counts when at least two players finish it. If a sponsored challenge is cancelled, expires or is called off, the prize is refunded to you in full. The setup charge and platform fee are not refundable.
Yes, until someone joins it. Once a player has joined, the challenge runs its course.
If players are missing at the start time, the creator can push the start back by 5 minutes, up to twice. If the creator isn't there, the challenge starts on time automatically. Nobody can join once questions are running, and a live challenge needs at least two players present to go ahead.
No. Challenge winnings aren't counted towards the ₦30,000 daily Classic limit, and the top tier cooldown doesn't stop you playing challenges.

Access credits are non-refundable once acquired. They don't expire, so you can use them any time.
No. Your access credits never expire.
No. Access credits grant participation in competition rounds only. They are not stored value, convertible currency, or transferable, and have no monetary value outside the platform.
Rewards & Redemption
In Classic Mode the reward tiers range from ₦200 (Q1) to ₦50,000 (Q15), with milestones guaranteeing ₦1,000 at Q5 and ₦10,000 at Q10. Tournaments have their own prize pools, and challenges can carry a prize sponsored by the creator.
Type CLAIM in chat, or tap the claim button in the web lobby. Provide your bank account details — the account name must match your registered name. Once verified, your reward is processed within 12–24 hours. Challenge prizes and refunds are claimed the same way.
72 hours from earning it. Unclaimed rewards are forfeited after that.
They're all shown in your lobby on the web, and they're claimed one at a time — finish one claim and the next is ready.
Yes, for fair competition:
- Daily maximum: ₦30,000 in Classic winnings per user per day
- Top tier cooldown: 5 days after earning the ₦50,000 top tier, during which Classic Mode and tournaments are unavailable
Challenges aren't affected by either limit, and Practice Mode is always available.
The Web App
Yes. Open play.whatsuptrivia.com.ng and add it to your home screen — on Android tap Install when prompted; on iPhone tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It opens full screen like an app.
If you allow notifications, we'll tell you when the lobby opens for a live challenge you've joined — once, 5 minutes before it starts. We don't send marketing notifications. On iPhone, notifications work once the app is on your home screen.
Yes, on the web. From Your stats, open Recent games to go back over any game from the last 72 hours, question by question, with the correct answers and fun facts.
A Classic round can be played on one device at a time on the web. If you open it on a second device, the first one stops.
Security & Account
Yes. All payments are processed through encrypted, secure payment infrastructure. We never store your card details, and your bank details for reward redemption are encrypted.
KYC (Know Your Customer) verification confirms your identity. It may be required for redemptions over ₦10,000 or when suspicious activity is detected. You'll need to provide a government-issued ID.
No. Each person can have only one account. Creating multiple accounts — including to enter your own challenges — is a violation of our Terms and results in a permanent ban and forfeiture of all pending rewards.
Yes, all three run the same game and share the same leaderboards. Each platform has its own account, so your access credits, rewards and history stay with the account you earned them on. If you play on WhatsApp or Telegram, you can still open a challenge link in your browser and play it as your chat account.
Choose Leave a Review from the main menu (option 7 on WhatsApp and Telegram), or type REVIEW, and we'll send you a link. On the web, use the Review button in the lobby. Reviews from real players are marked as verified.
